About Alliance Capacity Expansion Project (ACEP )

Alliance Pipeline is a 3,848 kilometre (2,391 mile) natural gas transmission pipeline system that has been operating across Canada and the U.S. since December 2000. Alliance’s mainline runs underground through British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and terminates in Illinois, delivering approximately 1.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Recently, there has been strong interest to increase the pipeline’s delivery capabilities. The existing capacity on the Alliance system is nearly fully utilized every day, so Alliance is exploring a potential expansion of its existing system to meet the market need. Alliance plans to expand its capacity approximately 25 percent, by adding new facilities to its existing system. The planned in-service date is November 2021.

Based on initial interest in the Alliance Capacity Expansion Project, or ACEP, we anticipate growing the Alliance system by adding more compression facilities on land we already own. We do not anticipate any new pipeline will be needed. We are in the process of formalizing market commitments, which will determine the specific required upgrades to the pipeline system.

Affiliates of Enbridge will lead the technical project execution efforts (survey work, design, public outreach, environmental review and permitting and construction) of the proposed Alliance facilities and will keep you updated regarding the Project. Alliance operational representatives will continue with day-to-day operations.
